Rino Larsen
Rino Larsen is a Norwegian artist inspired by shapes, contrasts and textures in the nature surrounding us, as well as our dependency to nature – and to each other.

Rino aims to capture the essence of nature in a simplified form. You will not necessarily find a stone, a tree or a flower in his paintings, but you can perceive or associate in that direction. The artist uses the elements of nature and combines them in a new way to create contrasts.

The elements in Rino Larsen’s paintings are often placed in layers with the intention of creating an optical illusion of volume, depth and movement. He is triggered by how different shapes are affecting each other and are trying to find the inner force of the shapes aiming at a “vibrating” surface to the painting. Rino Larsen’s work is also inspired by architecture and design.

 Technique
Rino Larsen uses thin strokes of acrylic in multiple layers – hence the “glowing” colors. The artist has spent a lot of time and resources studying art and techniques in order to develop his unique expression.

Man
Rino Larsen is working with human form in the same way as he does nature, focusing on shapes, contrasts and the composition of the painting. Often - the humans in his paintings looks “photographic”, but are painted with traditional methods on canvas. Sometimes the humans are painted as three-dimensional forms, other times as flat forms, all depending on the nature and composition of the painting. There is always an underlying story in the paintings, sometimes very obvious other times more as an indication.

Knut Rose, Odd Nerdrum, Edvard Munch and Håkon Gullvåg are amongst the Norwegian artists which has been and inspiration to Rino Larsens work. Francis Bacon and Diego Velazquez are two international artists of which he is very inspired.

As most Norwegians, Rino Larsen are very fond of the nature and are using it actively. Growing up, he spent the summers at his grandparents in Lofoten –way up north. His paintings are inspired by the wild and untamed landscape in this region.
